FRENCH HORN / Xiaoming Han


ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENTS
In 1980, Xiao-Ming Han began his remarkable career at the young age of 17 as principal horn of the China Central Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 1985 Han has been the principal horn of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

PERFORMANCES
At age 22, he was appointed principal horn of the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra and later that year principal horn of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, with Artistic Director meastro Myung-whun Chung. During his broad musical career, Han has performed with many celebrated conductors such including Leonard Bernstein, Georg Solti, Claudio Abbado, Lorin Maazel, Seiji Ozawa. He has been invited to many music festivals such as the Salzburg Music Festival, Würzburg Mozart Music Festival, Saito Kinen Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Lucerne Festival, London Proms.
Additional he has frequently been invited as guest principal with the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bavarian, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestras, and Düsseldorf Opera House Orchestras as well as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

HONOURS AND AWARDS
In 1984 Han won the first prize of the International Horn Competition organized by the International Horn Society. 
Based upon his exceptional skills as an outstanding orchestra member, soloist, and chamber musician Han became the youngest and only Asian professor for horn and chamber music in Germany at age of 30. In the years following, Han has shown great commitment to further horn education worldwide.
Next to his activities in the West, Xiao-Ming Han is a very active promoter of classical music and music development in Asia. He holds positions as Guest Professor for Horn at the China Central and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Artistic Advisor and principal horn of the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing; Artistic Director of the Worldwide Chinese Festival Orchestra. In 2009 Xiao-Ming Han tolk on a sabbatical year from his positions in Germany, and has full-time commitment in China as General Manager of the newly established residence orchestra of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing. In2012 xiaoming return to Germany Continue as  principal Horn at the German radio Philharmonic orchestra. 2014 Xiao Ming as a founding member established China Horn Ensemble in Beijing, frequently give concert tours in China and Asia, 2016 tour in Germany and Austria.
2016 The ARD Munich international Horn competition inverted HANXIAOMING as first asian Horn player as the ARD Horn competition jury.

RECORDINGS
First CD will be released in July 2017 in Germany with oehms classic label.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Xiao-Ming Han was born into a musical family in Shanghai. His father, Prof. Sin-Guang Han is a famous Chinese horn player, who was a prizewinner at the Geneva International Horn Competition in 1961. Xiao-Ming Han began studying horn with his father at the age of 10. After graduating from the Academy affiliated with the China Central Philharmonic Orchestra and Beijing's Central Conservatory of Music at the age of 17, he was appointed principal horn of the China Central Philharmonic Orchestra.
During Seiji Ozawa's visit to China in 1979, to conduct the Central Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, he was impressed by young Xiao-Ming Han's musical talent and invited him to attend the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Tanglewood Music Summer Institute in the United States. After that, he was enrolled to study with Prof. Richard Mackey (Boston Symphony Orchestra) of the New England Conservatory on a full scholarship. 
Upon receiving a scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer AustauschDienst (DAAD), he went to Europe to further his studies with Prof. Ifor James at the Freiburg University of Music, and with Prof. Otto Schmitz at the Munich University of Music where he obtained his Master of Arts degree in 1986.
